I’ve long tried to embrace this idea mainly because I feel positivity breeds positivity. Energy is contagious, and I always notice if I’m having a “bad” day, bad things continue to find their way to me. There is so much research and information about this topic and that could be a whole post on itself.
One life-changing book I love is called “The Power of Now ” by Eckhart Tole. It really delves into how to stay present, and has helped my anxiety immensely. Its a MUST read in my opinion.
I’ve also recently enjoyed the writings of Dr. Joe Dispenza. He also has some great YouTube videos worth watching. What I love about Dr. Dispenza is his science-based research of how powerful our minds truly are. If your doubting your own ability, go watch his videos and try not to be inspired.

Okay now to the question of “Can you think yourself thin”?
I love research and information so I decided to look into this concept. I came across a really cool article citing a study that put this theory to the test.
Three groups of people were used in this study.
- Group A did nothing to change their routine.
- Group B was out two weeks of highly focused strength training for one specific muscle group three times a week.
- Group C listened to audio CDs that guided them to imagine themselves going through the same workout as Group B three times a week.
So what were the results?
- Group A saw no change in strength.
(No surprises there) - Group B saw a 28% gain in strength.
- Group C saw a 24% gain in strength.
The group that just IMAGINED themselves working out gained close to the same amount of strength! That is amazing to me. Doesn’t that just make you want to think positive about everything?
Now do I think we can just think ourselves to look however we want while doing whatever we want, not really.
But if you pair a positive mind with your positive actions can you imagine the results you might have? On the contrary, can you imagine the impact negative thoughts can have? It’s worth considering and being mindful of what your thoughts say.
Your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny.
Ghandi
The best part about this is it takes nothing more than intentional thought. You can start this anytime and anyplace. I’m still trying to master this and believe me when I tell you it’s not easy. But just like anything practice makes perfect.
So my friends you can see why the phrase, “It starts from within” is something I hold so dear. We all have within us the power to do so much. All we have to do is believe it.
If you’ve already had an experience with the power of the mind, share it below. I’d love to hear how your powerful mind has helped you!
